Fourteen Indians were rescued by Cambodian law enforcement authorities, along with the efforts of the Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh, from cybercrime operations in Cambodia. These individuals were victims of alleged job scams that promised lucrative opportunities but ended in forced criminal activity.

The Embassy’s efforts, including providing specific leads to Cambodian authorities, have now facilitated the safe return of over 650 Indian citizens targeted by such scams.

“The embassy provided specific leads to the Cambodian Police, leading to the rescue of 14 additional Indian victims,” the Indian Embassy said in a statement. “These rescued individuals are currently receiving care from an NGO in collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Social Affairs,” it added.

The Embassy highlighted that it has been “actively rescuing Indian nationals from fraudulent job offers in Cambodia that lure them into cybercrime operations”.

“The Indian embassy is in ongoing communication with Cambodian officials, urgently requesting the expedited completion of necessary formalities to ensure the safe and timely repatriation of the 14 rescued Indian nationals back to India,” it added.

They further emphasised the importance of vigilance, urging Indian citizens in Cambodia to be wary of suspicious job offers and report any concerns to the Embassy immediately.

“Indian nationals are advised to exercise extreme caution regarding any job offers in the country and to immediately report any suspicious activities to the embassy,” it said.
