Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Tuesday slammed the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The leaders said the Budget is focused around Andhra Pradesh and Bihar with little to cheer for Karnataka.
“Despite being elected from Karnataka, the Union Finance Minister has done injustice to the state by not meeting the demands of the state,” Siddaramaiah said.
“We have provided Rs 5,000 crore for welfare schemes in Karnataka. We asked for a matching grant from the Centre but it was not given,” Siddaramaiah added.
“A big injustice has been done to the farmers who have been demanding that an MSP law should be enacted for five years. There is no mention about this in the Budget,” the Chief Minister said.
Grants for education, health and defence sectors have been cut significantly since the February Budget presented by the finance minister, Siddaramaiah further said. “Nirmala Sitharaman has also not given the grant she had announced earlier for the Peripheral Ring Road in Bangalore and the Upper Bhadra Irrigation Project,” the Karnataka CM said.

“Except for Andhra Pradesh in south India, none of the other states have got anything,” he said.
Shivakumar too alleged that the Budget was intended to protect the NDA government at the Centre and not for the benefit of the people of the country. “She has betrayed the expectations of Karnataka by not providing any assistance,” Shivakumar said.
“This is a very disappointing Budget. In the Budget, the central government has not seen the country as one. The INDIA alliance-governed states have been ignored. It is only a budget to help states ruled by the BJP and alliance parties of the NDA,” Shivakumar said.
“Bangalore and Karnataka have created jobs and made their mark felt globally. I had hoped that the PM would provide infrastructure assistance to Bangalore and help Karnataka. Nirmala Sitharaman represents Karnataka. The expectation that they will protect the interest of Karnataka and give grants for the pending projects has not been realised,” he said.
