The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Mumbai said on Sunday afternoon that rainfall is likely to reduce in the next week. While the IMD has kept Mumbai under a yellow alert for Saturday and Sunday, there is no alert for the period from July 29 (Monday) and July 31 (Wednesday).

An orange alert has been issued for Raigad district for Monday, while Thane, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts have been placed under a yellow alert for the next 24 hours.

“The monsoon trough is not intense right now, as a result of which, intense rainfall will not take place over Mumbai. However, the south westerly and westerly winds will continue to blow. That may lead to light to moderate rainfall in Mumbai,” Sunil Kamble, director of the IMD in Mumbai, told The Indian Express on Sunday afternoon.

In the 24-hour cycle that ended at 8.25 am on Sunday morning, the IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded 9 mm of rain while the coastal observatory at Colaba recorded 4 mm.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporations automatic weather station recorded an average of 5 mm rainfall in western suburbs, 11 mm in island city and 8 mm in the eastern suburbs.
