A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Karnataka’s Kodagu district for allegedly shooting dead his wife while she talked to someone on the mobile phone.
Police said that after killing Shilpa Seethamma, 37, a former grama panchayat member, her husband Nayakanda Bopanna walked into the Virajpet rural police station with a rifle in his hand and surrendered on Saturday morning.

A police officer said, “In his statement, Bopanna said that Seethamma talked on the phone to another person on Friday. On Saturday morning, when Shilpa was talking on her phone to someone, Bopanna shot her with the rifle around 8.45 am.”
The police officer said that Bopanna and Seethamma’s relationship had recently strained and that the accused suspected that his wife had been in a relationship with another man. It is also said that Seethamma had approached court for a divorce.
Seethamma was a grama panchayat member between 2012 and 2017. Bopanna runs a service station and also has a coffee estate. Both were residents of Betolli village. The couple have two daughters studying in Classes 10 and 11.
