A couple in Mumbai’s Goregaon (West) was found dead in a five-storey housing society on Friday morning, officials said. The police suspect that the man, a salesman of gym equipment, died by suicide after killing his physiotherapist wife, Rajashree.

The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of the deaths, said Madhusudan Naik, inspector in-charge of Goregaon police station.

According to the Goregaon police, the watchman posted at a bank’s office on the ground floor of the ground+4 floor society informed the police control room about a man lying on the society’s premises with a serious head injury.

The man was identified as Kishore Pednekar, 55, and the police found the key of his house fastened to the chain he was wearing.

“When the police opened his flat using the key, they found Rajshree lying in the apartment. She had marks on her neck and blood oozing from her nose and mouth, indicating that she was stangulated. She seemed to be in her 50s,” said a police officer.

The police said Rajashree worked at a physiotherapy centre at Malad Centre.

“The couple has a son staying in Delhi. We have informed him. He is coming to Mumbai. After his statement is recorded, we will be able to ascertain what could be the cause behind the incident,” said Madhusudan Naik, inspector in-charge of the Goregaon police station.

The police have registered two accidental death reports, he added.
