ICG rescues ailing crew member from private ship off Porbandar | Ahmedabad News

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Sunday carried out a “daring evacuation” of an ailing crew member of a private vessel that was about 20 kms off the Porbandar coast.

An SOS was received from Motor Tanker (MT) Zeal, the private vessel, after a crew member suffered numbness in the lower body accompanied by very low pulse.

An official statement from ICG said that an Advanced Light Helicopter was launched at first light on July 21 “under trying weather conditions” for the medical evacuation onboard the ship.

“The Aircraft, braving the high intensity winds, heavy rainfall and inclement weather, arrived at MT Zeal about 20 kms from Porbandar.

The patient was then successfully evacuated using the rescue basket,” it said. The patient was provided interim relief in the aircraft by ICG medical specialists after landing at Coast Guard Air Enclave, Porbandar. “Once the condition of the patient was stable, he was handed over to the local agent for further medical management,” it added.
