[ad_1]

State health minister Dr Tanaji Sawant on Thursday instructed top officials in the department to launch a concerted campaign to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. Due to uneven distribution of rainfall, some areas have received heavy to heavy rain in a short period of time, Sawant said at a review meeting held here.

The health minister has issued instructions on remaining alert during the monsoon. Apart from utilising manpower from the urban development department to carry out cleaning in the cities, the health minister also called for similar strategies to be implemented in villages with the help of rural development and revenue departments.

At the gram panchayat level, placards should display messages in bold letters about mosquito eradication, impure water, and precautions to be taken against epidemics. “We must avert a situation wherein treatment is not available due to absence of doctors,” Sawant said.

He has directed district health officers to ensure they communicate with doctors in the district and keep abreast of new developments. The state health minister has further said that to prevent delays in procurement of medicines, the local administration should be empowered to procure 100% medicines from district planning funds. Patients should not be inconvenienced for lack of medicines, the minister has instructed.

Sawant has also directed that patient referrals should be negligible considering the availability of health facilities in the state. A committee should be set up to verify the number of referrals and action should be taken in case it is without any specific reason.
