Legendary Assamese music composer Ramen Baruah has gone missing from his hometown and search operations are currently underway to find him. Despite the efforts, authorities have yet to receive any information regarding his whereabouts.

Baruah, 84, left his home in Latasil, Guwahati, on Monday morning to visit a nearby temple, news agency PTI reported. When he failed to return by late evening, his family informed the police, who initiated the necessary measures to locate him.

A recent report by Times of India revealed that CCTV footage captured the composer walking through a lane near Gauhati High Court that leads to the Brahmaputra riverbank. Mentioning that he was last seen approaching the river with a plastic bag in his hand, the city police chief told the publication that Baruah’s final phone tower location was near the HC building. Despite ongoing searches by the police and NDRF and SDRF teams in this area since Tuesday morning, there have been no breakthroughs so far.

Following the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to express his concern. The CM also noted that the officials have taken adequate steps to locate him. “I am deeply concerned about the sudden disappearance of Sri Ramen Baruah, missing since this morning. His absence worries his family, friends, and countless admirers. I have asked Commissioner of Guwahati Police Sri Diganta Bora to mobilize all resources and take swift action to locate him,” Sarma wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

State Minister for Industries & Commerce, Public Enterprises, and Cultural Affairs Bimal Borah also took to social media to confirm the news and expressed hope that the officials manage to find him soon. “A distinguished personality in the cultural realm of Assam, eminent music director Shri Ramen Baruah dangoriya has been missing since this morning, causing great concern to his family as well as his countless admirers. We earnestly pray for his quick return to our midst,” he noted on X, along with a picture of Baruah.
