A retired Indian Revenue Service officer and his wife were attacked with a knife by a burglar who entered their home in Southwest Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area a little after Saturday midnight, police said, adding that the burglar was arrested from Meerut within 12 hours.
Rohit Meena, DCP (Southwest), said that on August 3, a call was received at the Vasant Kunj police station regarding a burglary and injury at a house.

Abhay Kumar Singh, 61, a retired IRS officer living at D Block of Vasant Kunj, was sleeping in his room with his wife Anupama, while his son and servant were in another room. Around 1 am, Singh heard a loud noise from the balcony adjacent to their room and woke up. “He saw a man entering their room through the sliding door of the balcony. Upon seeing the intruder, Singh started shouting and woke up his wife. The accused injured both of them with a knife,” said the DCP.
Although Singh’s family members and the servant locked the burglar in one of the rooms, he managed to escape through the balcony.
Police and forensics teams reached the spot and six teams were constituted to nab the burglar, leading to the arrest of Jitender, 38, from Uttar Pradesh. The police said they recovered three laptops and a laptop bag from Jitender.

Singh and his wife were discharged from the AIIMS trauma centre after treatment.
